One of the many projects I hope to get into eventually is machine translation, especially between Hebrew and English but perhaps more in the future. To properly inspire me, here’s a beautiful gem I found today in the YouTube channel of Israeli channel 23 – a 1968 interview with Avraham Shlonsky, saying that those new “electronic computers” can never translate a text as well as a human. If you speak Hebrew, it’s quite amusing to watch.
While I certainly don’t agree with him, it’s pretty amazing how this is still very relevant more than 40 years ago. How come we reached so little in so much time? This is a mission I will have to take at some point.
